The Oxnard Police Department’s 2nd Annual Downtown Car Show took place on Sunday, August 26, 2018. The event was held in front of the police station in Oxnard, California. The show was hosted by Jimmy Reyes of Old School 104.7’s with DJ Wicked In The Mix. Everyone was welcome as the event was free to attend. It featured vendors, raffles, food, awards, entertainment, and a kids zone. All of the proceeds from the car show benefited the DRAGG program.
If you have not heard of DRAGG, it stands for Drag Racing Against Gangs & Graffiti. It is an after-school program where police officers and people in the automotive industry mentor local high school students. They provide at-risk youths an alternative to gangs and graffiti through lessons that range from basic automotive repair to creative car customization. The program was established in Oxnard, California, in 2011. The DRAGG program has grown in the past seven years and have now expanded to Santa Barbara, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
A wide range of cars were in attendance; from classic cars and hot rods, to exotics and supercars. Many of the vehicles belonged to individuals from local car clubs in the Ventura County. Plenty of local companies were also present at the car show to show their support for the community. The list included: Borla Exhaust, Vortech Superchargers, Wilwood Brakes, Vista Ford Racing, and JCG Restorations and Customs to name a few. Borla brought out their wrapped 2018 Mustang GT, 2017 Camaro SS, and a 2016 Volkswagen GTI belonging to Borla’s Marketing Manager, Jason Gelinas.
All in all, it was a fun day and the event had a great turnout. It is always wonderful to be able to interact with the local community.
