Can you really improve on a classic? When it comes to the Mustang, Ford says yes. The 2018 version of this iconic sports car has more sophistication and power, making significant upgrades to previous models. The Mustang has always been a trendsetter. Now, with these new performance specs and features, the Ford Mustang remains the standard for pony cars.
New Designs – Performance Specs
Only minor updates hit the Mustang line in 2017, but not so in 2018. The changes this year start with the car’s engine. In 2018, the Mustang brought several design changes to the market. Instead of its standard V6 engine, it now features a turbocharged 2.3liter inline-four as its base engine. This model one-ups the previous turbo four, which gives it an additional 30 lb-ft of torque. Do you want more power? Upgrade to the V8 which will give you yet another 20 lb-ft of torque, for a total of 420 lb-ft, and up to 460 horsepower. Both of these engines can be paired with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission.
What gives the new engine better power? According to Ford, it is increased bore size, new cylinder head redesign, and new direct fuel injectors. The new Mustang also boasts a new crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, composite oil pan and additional knock sensors. All of these upgrades combine to give the engine an edge over its predecessors.
Even if owners don’t select the 10-speed automatic, the 2018 Mustang has an improved transmission. The transmission you get will depend on the trim you choose, but each one is an upgrade over the sixth generation Mustang. The six-speed manual, for example, has a new dual-mass flywheel which will reduce vibration, noise and harshness. It also got an improved twin-disc clutch that gives more torque capacity than previous models. The overall feel of the shifter is better too.
New 2018 Mustang Features
The 2018 was a significant redesign, so the car features several new features that you won’t find in earlier models.
First, the 2018 Mustang GT model features a new screen-based instrument panel and gauge cluster, which makes it feel like a technological upgrade without hurting the overall look of the Mustang as a sports car. Sleeker styling in the newer model is also designed to impress, both on the car’s exterior and interior.
On the exterior, the headlights are sleeker, and the taillights have three light bars that curve inward to give it a distinctive look. Both headlights and taillights now come standard with LEDs. The car looks lower to the ground and more powerful than previous models, with a sleeker, more refined look. It also got an upgraded chassis to improve overall ride and handling.
Finally, many 2018 Mustang models feature the MagneRide suspension. This impressive suspension works to constantly change stiffness on the shocks, which leads to a smoother ride, even at high speeds. This technological advancement improves the car’s stability while reducing body roll significantly, so you will instantly feel the difference when you get behind the wheel.
Active Exhaust – Borla Mustang Active Exhaust
Ford Mustang is a powerful car, and a powerful car demands a sound to match. Ford Motor Company has risen to the challenge in its newest Mustang by offering an active exhaust system. This system uses a series of exhaust system valves to give excellent sound at different engine speeds, while also giving the driver the option to choose sound level. This means that the driver can have the car operate quietly when necessary, such as when in a residential environment, then crank up the sound when taking to the open road.
The active exhaust is one of the many beneficial features of the new Mustang, but it comes with one specific problem. If you want to change the sound to match your personal style through an exhaust upgrade, you’re going to have trouble because most aftermarket exhausts are not compatible with the active exhaust technology.
BORLA makes it possible to add a new, more powerful exhaust to an active exhaust system with our patented Butterfly Valve Technology. With this system, you can keep the factory dual-mode or active valve function on your Mustang’s exhaust, all while increasing the flow of exhaust from the engine and upgrading the sound.
You need a one-of-a-kind exhaust system for a one-of-a-king performance car. The Mustang active exhaust can only be matched by Borla’s own active exhaust built specifically to be compatible. If you’re looking to upgrade the look and sound of your exhaust, you need the right one, and that is the Borla Mustang Active Exhaust system. Purchase yours today.
