What’s New for the 2019 RAM 1500
The 2019 RAM 1500, lovingly called the DT by industry insiders, has a lighter frame and more aerodynamic body than its predecessors. Under the hood, the RAM 1500 comes with either a 305 horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine or a 395-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi. It has a towing capacity of up to 12,750 pounds and a payload capacity of up to 2,320 pounds. This is an improvement over previous models, provided owners purchase the Max Tow package.In 2019 in order to further improve fuel economy, RAM put it’s iconic pickup on a diet, and the crew-cab RAM 1500 Big Horn now weighs almost 225 pounds less than the prior model. An electronic parking-brake system, electrically assisted power-steering system and lighter high-strength steel frame combine to help with this weight reduction.
Even though it’s lighter, the 2019 RAM is actually longer and wider than its predecessor, which gives it slightly more cab space. Rear-seat legroom in the crew cab has increased, and luxury trim models have heated and cooled seats in the rear as well as the option to recline rear seats. This is a truck that is as comfortable to drive as it is powerful to use. Price for the base 2019 RAM 1500 is $33,340, easily increasing to over $40,000 for towing and luxury trims.
New RAM eTorque Transmission
One of the most interesting new features of the RAM 1500 is the eTorque transmission system. This system swaps out the alternator with a motor generator unit. This allows it to feed a 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. It also has a smoother start than traditional transmissions. The eTorque technology gives the truck a torque boost of 90 lb-ft for the V-6 or 130 lb-ft to the V-8. With the eTorque technology, the 2019 RAM truck now has hybrid technology to help improve fuel economy even more.
