Dodge’s revitalized Challenger made big waves when it hit the streets back in 2008. There was an absolute war brewing, just like the late 60s and early 70s, that pitted the Big Three against one another for muscle car superiority. The Challenger was, arguably, the most throwback muscle car to hit the strip, right down to little details like a unique fuel filler lid, and a long hood that fit a variety of monster engines.
SRT stands for Street & Racing Technology, and any vehicle that’s adorned with these three letters is guaranteed to be a performance powerhouse. The Dodge Challenger SRT-8 represented the top of the Challenger lineup and came from the factory with a 6.1L HEMI V8 pumping out 425 stonking horsepower. All 2008 Challenger models were designated as SRT models to commemorate the launch of this new Challenger. This motor stuck around until 2011 when it was replaced by a 392 cubic inch (6.4L) that cranked out 470 horses and remains in the lineup today.
No matter which motor you have, these big HEMIs need to breathe, and although Dodge did offer a decent-sounding exhaust system (for a stock vehicle at least), we never really thought it was enough to do these motors justice.
